Using bank and branch codes

For a local transfer form that requests both values, enter the bank clearing code in the bank code field and the branch code in the branch field. Keep any leading zeros. Enter the recipient’s account number separately according to the bank’s instructions. A routing code does not confirm the recipient’s identity or that an account is valid.

Digital banks still have branch routing records even when you manage your account online. The listed branch or office address does not mean there is a walk-in counter.

Checking a SWIFT BIC

The BIC column comes from HKICL’s member list. A listed BIC does not establish that a bank accepts a particular international transfer, currency or payment route. Ask the receiving bank for its current incoming transfer instructions before using it.

Read the clearing code, branch code and SWIFT guide for the differences, or browse the full clearing code directory.
